NE 10371-00*P discusses the packaging, reproduction, and commodification of natural resources. The title is a packaging number bearing the classification NE [Natural Extraction] and the specification of contents P [Pigment]. The pigments were extracted through chemical synthesis from the dried leaves of various plants, which themselves were destroyed during the production of this work. The performative nature of this destruction with intent to extract mirrors our patterns of interaction with the natural world.. The packaging of these extractions reflects the attempted reintegration of “nature,” through greenness, into our decimated ecosystems.
The pigment is a product that has come at great cost: the sacrifice of a living being. Packaged, and ready for distribution.
