Explorations in Scent

Bottled Scent, Erlenmeyer Flasks, Soil

2022

Explorations in Scent is an experimental installation for a forthcoming project titled Green Space II, a continuation of the previous Green Space installation. Swathed in green light, three scents are placed on pedestals in the gallery space, which themselves are covered in soil. Each scent is from a different local location, ranging from forests to urban green spaces. Through distillation processes, the scent was extracted from soil and bottled. This is the presentation of an artificial landscape, relying on the scent of soil [petrichor] and the color green to create a connection to the natural world within the gallery space.
